Salisbury Eyecare & Eyewear values more than eyes; we value you! Our optometrist, Dr. Melanie J. Denton, uses her wealth of knowledge in geriatrics and emergency health care to provide her patients with comprehensive services that deliver experience, eye care, and ethics.
Experience
When you come for your appointment, enjoy a freshly brewed cup of coffee in our waiting room, let your children pass the time with our very own LeapPad (disinfected after every use, of course), or simply browse our curated catalog of fabulous designer frames!
Eye Care
During your appointment, Dr. Denton will take a detailed look at your overall health, including your blood pressure and body temperature, to help provide the services you need. Great eye care looks at the health of the person, not just their eyes!
Ethics
Ethical work is in our blood. We ensure all of our products and services are eco-friendly and provide incredible value beyond what we do in the office! Our eyewear comes from carefully vetted designers and manufacturers; if we don’t feel comfortable selling it, you won’t see it in our store!

We do this through excellent customer service, continuous dedication to perfecting our craft, and the utilization of cutting-edge technology and leading eye care products. We are obsessed with enhancing, protecting, and preserving our patient’s precious sense of sight for a lifetime!
Dr. Denton isn’t originally from Salisbury, but she got here as fast as she could. Raised on a hog farm in Michigan, Dr. Denton dreamed of attending the University of Michigan. She did just that, graduating with a BS in Anthropology-Zoology in 2005. Following her undergraduate studies, she attended the Michigan College of Optometry, obtaining her doctorate in optometry in 2009. Dr. Denton completed her student internships at the Duke Eye Center, the Detroit Veteran’s Affairs Hospital, and the Optometric Institute and Clinic of Detroit. Following graduation, she elected to pursue an Ocular Disease residency program and was selected to be a resident at the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, FL, where she completed her residency. While living in Asheville, she completed an MBA from Western Carolina University.
Dr. Denton is active in her profession and the community. She is a member of the Historic Salisbury Foundation, the Rowan Chamber of Commerce, and the Salisbury Rotary. She volunteers as a clinical examiner for the North Carolina Board of Optometry as well as being a member of the North Carolina Optometric Society, the American Optometric Association, and a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
Dr. Denton has a passion for patient care and recognizes the eyes as, not only the window to your soul, but also the window to a person’s overall health. While she treats and manages a wide array of ocular diseases, ocular traumas, and primary eye care, her true passion is treating Dry Eye Syndrome. She prides herself in being an “end-of-the-line” specialist, meaning she manages care for individuals who have tried seemingly everything and are still suffering from their dry eye symptoms. Utilizing a method for treating dry eye that she calls “interventional dry eye treatment”, she analyzes your medical history, current routine, and the condition of your eyes before prescribing treatments that truly intervene to deliver tangible results to patients, ensuring to track improvement along the way. If you’re interested in being scheduled to be seen by Dr. Denton, reach out to Candice via email at [email protected] and she will get back to you as soon as possible.
